My professional interests include molecular and morphological evolution, genetics and ecology of speciation, functional morphology, behavioral ecology and biogeography, including:
(1) molecular phylogenetics using several independent loci, (mitochondrial, autosomal and sex-specific),
(2) phylogeography and population genetics of widely distributed species,
(3) mitochondrial genomics and genetic basis of adaptation to cold,
(4) ecological and behavioral mechanisms of speciation,
(5) evolution of avian communities,
(6) studies of rates of morphological evolution using molecular phylogenetic methods,
(7) Holarctic biogeography,
(8) ecology, life cycles, and habitat use of alpine, boreal, and arctic birds,
(9) studies of foraging behavior and locomotion for interpretation of adaptive significance of various morphological traits,
(10) conservation policies.
I am also interested in developing and using museum collections for comparative evolutionary, molecular and morphological studies.
